09) Do Not Think of Your Faults
to uproot faults than choke them
by gaining virtues.
Do not think of your faults,
still less of others' faults.
In every person {who comes near you}
look for (=find) what is good and strong:
honor that, rejoice in it, as you can,
try to imitate it, and your faults will drop
off, like dead leaves, when their time comes.
08) Man Is The Creator of Circumstances
Man is not the slave,
so much as he is the creator,
of circumstances;
and <by the exercise of his free will>,
he can direct his actions
<so that> their actions shall be
productive of good rather than evil.

07) The Great Use of School Education
The great use (of school education)
is not <so much to teach> you
many things <as to teach> you
the art (of learning);
<so that> you may apply that art
<in the afterlife<< for yourselves>,
and may apply on any matter
{to which you choose
to turn your mind in it}.
06)The Civilization of Honey-Bees
In the world, there is no creature
{with which man has surrounded
himself }{that seems so much
like a product of civilization,
so much like the result of development
on special lines and in special fields,
as the honney-bee}.
Indeed, a colony of bees,
<with their neatness and love of order,
their peace of love, their public-
spiritedness, their thrift, and
their division of labor,
their complex economics>,
seems as far removed
<from a condition of rude nature>
as does a walled city or a cathedral town.

05) Forever Humanitarians ?
There are many people {who believe
themselves to be fundamentally humane},
and actually, behave as humanitarians,
but who, <if changed circumstance offered
occasions for being cruel>, <especially if
the cruelty were represented as a means
to some noble end>, would give away
to the temptation with enthusiasm.
Hence comes the necessity of avoiding war,
whether international or civil.
04) Hearing Our Faults From Ourselves
<Though>we do not like to hear our faults
from others, it does not mean that we are not conscious of them.
<The more> conscious we are of them,
<the less> we like to hear of them
from others, and <the more> we like
to hear from ourselves.
